Council members in Washington raised questions toward top lottery officials with regards to whether or not the district's online gambling proposal was properly processed before becoming a law. D.C inspector general Charles Willoughby expressed his concern of the city's contract with a software vendor saying that online gambling was not yet provisioned when the deal was made. Iowa Senator Jeff Danielson said last Tuesday that he plans to draft a bill to legalize online poker in his home state in the very near future. As reported earlier, Iowa has been one of the active supporters of the DOJ's change of stance regarding the Wire Act last December. Danielson stated that the DOJ's decision can ultimately allow the state of Iowa to engage other jurisdictions such as Washington and Nevada with regards to provisioning interstate online poker. UK betting firm Ladbrokes recently signed an agreement to acquire a majority stake in Las Vegas-based firm Stadium Technology Group.

The Department of Justice (DOJ) may have opened the doors for online poker in the US by announcing that it will revise its opinions on the Wire Act of 1961, removing online poker from the list of banned online wager games. After the announcement, several US states including Nevada, Iowa, and Washington, have already made their moves by enacting laws and looking into regulatory updates that would enable online poker offerings within state borders.
