In a recent interview, Senate majority leader Harry Reid rejuvenated the hopes of online poker fans by expressing his thoughts regarding a possible legalization of online poker at the federal level. Sen. Reid spoke to a reporter after the Deparment of Justice's recent ruling on the provisions of the Wire Act that has several states looking to operate poker websites.
Reid said that the DOJ's ruling will serve as an "incentive to get something done". Reid was referring to the scenario that the Congress will start on moving a bill to set online poker regulations at the federal level.
"We cannot have a series of laws around the country related to gaming," Reid said. "I know a lot about gaming… I'm a former chairman of the Nevada (Gaming) Commission and I think it's very important that we have a national law."
Sen. Reid also said that he is currently in talks with fellow Sen. John Kyl regarding the possibility of a federal online poker bill.
