Iowa Senator Jeff Danielson said last Tuesday that he plans to draft a bill to legalize online poker in his home state in the very near future. As reported earlier, Iowa has been one of the active supporters of the DOJ's change of stance regarding the Wire Act last December. Danielson stated that the DOJ's decision can ultimately allow the state of Iowa to engage other jurisdictions such as Washington and Nevada with regards to provisioning interstate online poker.
"We believe that because of the Department of Justice ruling, we can now have a multistate compact," said Danielson. According to the senator, the state of Iowa has been engaged with a similar multistate agreement involving lottery games. Last December, the DOJ released a ruling stating that only online gambling related to sports activities or events are now allowed in the US.
Other states such as California and New Jersey is reported to follow suit of Iowa's online poker plans.
